About the new NJ PBS

NJ PBS connects viewers across New Jersey with public television: trusted PBS programs, local journalism, arts and culture, learning for children, and coverage of the issues facing the state.

NJ PBS is New Jersey's public television service. It carries PBS programs, local stories, arts and culture, education, and statewide public affairs to viewers across the state and the surrounding region.

What NJ PBS is

NJ PBS is New Jersey's PBS member service, part of the national Public Broadcasting Service. It brings national PBS programming together with New Jersey storytelling: documentaries, arts and music, history, children's learning, and public-affairs coverage made for and about the state.

The service is nonprofit and viewer-supported. Programming is free to watch over the air and through PBS-hosted streaming, and member donations help keep it that way.

The member stations

NJ PBS reaches the state over four broadcast stations licensed to the New Jersey Public Broadcasting Authority: WNJS in Camden, WNJN in Montclair, WNJT in Trenton, and WNJB in New Brunswick. Together they cover New Jersey and reach into neighboring markets.

Each station keeps its own FCC online public inspection file. The four files are linked in the footer of every page on this site.

The move to new operations

New Jersey's public television is moving toward new operations. In June 2026, after a competitive process run by the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, the state selected Montclair State University as the next operator. The selection is an award, not a completed handoff: if it is finalized, it would return the service to in-state operation for the first time since 2011.

The change is planned for July 1, 2026. Programming, streaming, and member services are expected to continue through PBS systems during the handoff. If you have a question about your membership during the transition, contact the station team.
